The CZ 805 BREN assault rifle was first revealed in 2009. This weapon was developed in conjunction with the Czech Army and was aimed to replace the ageing Sa vz.58. In 2009 it was adopted for partial rearmament of the Czech Army. The Czech MoD obtained 17 678 of these assault rifles for special forces, reconnaissance battalions, and rapid deployment forces. Deliveries were completed in 2015. It is planned that until 2020 additional rifles will be obtained in order to entirely replace the old vz.58 rifles. Small batches of the CZ 805 have been exported to, Mexico, Moldova, Slovakia, and, possibly Egypt.
